GUIDE FOR REVIEWERS
It is important to accept the peer-review process for academic works that align with your area of expertise.
If the text requires revisions, it is essential to indicate necessary corrections directly on the manuscript using clear markings and annotations. Additionally, in the reviewer report, provide detailed comments for both the author and the editor, explaining your observations as comprehensively as possible.
If there is a conflict of interest regarding the article or if you detect/suspect an ethical violation, it is crucial to inform the editor.
Completing your review within the specified timeframe is vital for ensuring a smooth process. If this is not feasible, we kindly request that you inform us and request an extension.
ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Once you accept the peer-review process for an article, it is an ethical responsibility to maintain the confidentiality of its content. The evaluation must be conducted personally by the reviewer, and the manuscript must not be disclosed to third parties for any reason. The article file (and any attachments, if applicable) should be accessed only by the reviewer, and the confidentiality of the prepared reviewer reports must be preserved.
To eliminate potential risks, it is recommended that reviewers delete all files related to the reviewed article from their devices once the evaluation is complete and destroy any physical copies, if applicable.
Reviewer reports should not contain statements that are derogatory, offensive, or imply criticism of the author's character or identity. Reviewers are encouraged to provide constructive feedback and suggestions that enhance the quality of the work. If the article is deemed irreparable, reviewers are expected to communicate this to the author as clearly and understandably as possible.
EVALUATION
The articles published in Tarih Tetkikleri Dergisi are expected to be based on primary sources and to contribute to the relevant international and national literature in some aspect. To achieve this, articles must comply with academic and ethical standards.
To ensure a systematic review process, reviewers are kindly requested to consider the following general guidelines:
1. Articles are scanned using plagiarism detection software. However, such software can only identify verbatim overlaps. The most challenging form of plagiarism to detect is intellectual plagiarism, which requires subject-matter expertise. Reviewers are therefore requested to examine whether the manuscript exhibits any form of intellectual plagiarism. What is your opinion on the originality of the work? Does the manuscript adequately engage with and cite the relevant literature in the field? Have any gaps in the literature review been observed, intentionally or unintentionally? These points should be noted as a priority.
2. Does the manuscript contribute to the field in any way?
3. Does the manuscript employ the terminology relevant to the field accurately?
4. Is the manuscript written in a fluent and coherent style?
5. Does the manuscript follow a logical structure? Are its arguments consistent?
6. If the manuscript has significant flaws that cannot be corrected, we urge reviewers not to hesitate in recommending rejection. This helps maintain the quality of work in the field and prevents the spread of misinformation or substandard contributions.
The support of reviewers is crucial for improving the quality of both Tarih Tetkikleri Dergisi and academic studies in the field. We extend our gratitude for their contributions in this regard.
If you encounter any issues while accessing the reviewer portal, please contact the editor or the editorial office.
